International Youth Foundation's YouthAction Net 2007

I have been very privileged to have spent almost 2 weeks with 20 other amazing young people at the International youth Foundation's YouthAction Net Workshop and Awards Ceremony.

I have been in many conferences and many leadership trainings before, but nothing compares to this experience. IYF understood all of us for who we are - people. We may be doing something that may stand out because it's different, it's innovative, or it simply helps others but that didn't matter. They knew our work before we got there. They had planned on connecting us with the right people and organizations that can and are willing to help us. But what is invaluable during the whole week was we discussed things that are pertinent to each of us as persons just like everybody else, and as leaders - qualities, values, desires, hopes, dreams, strengths, weaknesses, energy level, changes, growth and our own lives. They understood that what we do may be different and may, sometimes be admirable, but it's just what we do. It's not who we are. IYF took that in and gave us a venue to just share. In so doing, I can definitely say that the atmosphere was familial. And this was just so amazingly refreshing.

Now, I have heard organizations claim themselves to be a family before and it always seemed hollow to me that I did not know whether these organizations are convincing others or convincing themselves.

But this was different. All 20 of us knew what each and everyone were talking about - different circumstances, yet overall our experiences are similar. We either have been there, or are in that situation. I have never been so tired, yet so happy and energized as I have been at that time.

To Bill, Ashok, Katherine, Shiela, Michelle, Karen and the rest of the team, my sincerest gratitude to you.

Abhishek, Maritza, Ainos, Neilesh, Ana, Anna Rose, Bernise, Antoine, Cheryl, John, Rachel, Rama, Spha, Li Shen, Vanja, Talia, Tom, Zablon, Tal - you are all my heroes!

The ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY) was held at the Mandarin Oriental, Makati City Philippines in September 1-4, 2003. Current issues regarding the youth were discussed in this meeting. The Philippine Youth Employment Network was part of the Philippine Delegation in this event. PYEN provided information on the PYEN objectives and the YES campaign and these were included in the presentation of the Philippine delegation. The ASEAN Ministers on Youth liked the campaign and asked for help in establishing an institution promoting the YES campaign in their countries. The Manila Declaration, which was signed by the ASEAN Ministers on youth, included the promotion of the YES campaign. Even today, PYEN is still keeping correspondence with the interested government bodies of the different countries in the hopes of promoting the YES campaign.
